Early rounds in spring and games deep into fall — shoulder season, they call it in the golf industry — have become many golfers’ favourite time of year to play.

I know I enjoy those times of the season.

Mornings are crisp, the air is clear, and temperatures are comfortable, especially when your attire is layered accordingly.

And no one should be deterred if the weather is or turns foul.

Cold, wind and rain may not provide the ideal environment for a game with your buddies, but if you’re properly layered to accommodate the conditions, there’s no reason to bail.

Outerwear manufacturers are doing their best to assist with that.

Shoulder season is at the heart of PUMA Golf’s new ‘Made for This’ collection.

Designed with cutting-edge fabrics and advanced weather-proofing technologies, the Carlsbad, Calif., manufacturer’s new line helps ensure player comfort and confidence in both benign and extreme conditions.

According to Justin Tucker, head of product design for PUMA Golf, versatility was at the heart of his team’s agenda in designing each piece of the collection.

“PUMA Golf is fully committed to the layering and performance technology category,” said Tucker, whose company is far better known to golfers for its footwear and apparel. “We’ve put together a technology-driven collection with style. We called it ‘Made for This’ because regardless of wind, rain, dry or cold conditions, well …. we made it for this.”

PUMA MADE FOR THIS line.

The all-seasons line for men and women, which includes WRMLBL and DRYLBL families, comes with a full complement of pieces from mid-weight sweaters and vests to windbreakers, rain suits and quilted cold weather jackets.

Tucker and the design team made fit function a top priority.

The Made For This collection uses stretch fabrication to keep the pieces well tailored to accommodate player movement. No one likes feeling restricted when you swing, but excessive fabric in width or length can also prove a hindrance.

“You came to play, not worry about the weather. We all share a passion for the game that inspires us to practise and play year-round,” says Mike Diaz, PUMA Golf’s marketing director. “PUMA Golf can fully outfit all types of players in any weather condition with premium apparel that looks, fits and performs exceptionally well.”

If you’re looking for protection from wind and rain, the DRYLBL line-up has you covered. The waterproof pants and jackets are all fully seam-sealed and feature functional trims. PUMA designed the line with Sympatex fabrication, a durable material with 100 per cent windproof and waterproof performance.

PUMA Golf’s WRMLBL pieces focus on wind and cold.

The array of quilted vests, jackets, fleece, cashmere sweaters, wind block sweaters, hoodies, quarter-zips and accessory pieces have been designed to optimize player comfort while still allowing for that critical full range of motion.

PUMA Golf’s Made For This collection is now available at pro shops and off-course retail outlets across Canada.
